Situation Leeds

Situation Leeds is an independent contemporary visual art festival, bringing together artists and arts organisations to explore art in public places through installations, events, debates, video and publications.

This is the second Situation Leeds and this year’s event stretches the definition of public art within the boundaries of the city, with many opportunities for you to get involved, meet artists and get up close to their work: this is not just a walk in the park.

A terraced street, pavements, cafes, churches, buses, car parks—even a few art galleries— will be transformed over two weeks, some quietly, some more boldly, by over 100 artists. From elaborate patterns creeping across a church floor, to a ‘swap-shop’ on wheels; from online debates, to knitting in the name of art, Situation Leeds 07 is questioning, discovering, challenging and original.

The Fine Art course has a selection of students involved- Jenni Danson with her Spiral Space, Lynne Snowden with 'A Mysterious Presence' and Dawn Carey-Jones with the 'For Sale Sign Project- all from Yr5 of the part-time degree. The 1st year group of the full-time degree are also in the festival with a site-specific group show at the college 'Out of Place'

Further details from www.situationleeds.org.uk- please support our student events and the festival at large when it begins on May 18th.
